new boyfriend

So, my parents got me a new boyfriend for Christmas. He came in a box, and I call him Tommy. He prefers to be called Tom Tom, and when I'm frustrated with him I call him by his full name... Thomas Thomas. He speaks to me in a sexy British accent and I love it. He's going to live in my car until the day that he dies, and until that day I will rely on him to tell me how to get everywhere I'm going.

That's right.. I've been given an oh so fine GPS.

two things

1) Reincarnation

So, I've always been of the belief that nothing comes from nothing... that any idea that we humans can come up with can't ever be entirely original. It has to be based on something that already exists or has existed. Yes, I believe that the flood occurred, and that dinosaurs once roamed, and that fire-breathing dragons was existed. This is mostly unrelated, but I also like to believe in the Loch Ness Monster and in the lost city of Atlantis.

Okay so, I'm rambling. Back to the point. Upon listening to the Christmas Story this year, it occurred to me that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was reincarnated into a human body. He had a previous existence... His previous self of course did not cease to exist, it entered into his next "life" (although really just a continuation, a change in His existence) along with Him. So maybe that's where the idea of reincarnation came from? Hmm... it made more sense when I was first thinking about it. Well, it's just a thought anyway.

2) Socialism
Earlier this evening someone said to me "a rising tide lifts all boats," as a means of justifying socialism. But you know... that simple, over-used phrase doesn't justify anything. Just think about it. A rising tide will lift all boats, yes, but that's because a rising tide is an occurrence of nature, and nothing else. A hurricane will also destroy everything it comes across, do you want to try to use that as a justification too? No, because any type of government isn't going to be an occurrence of nature... it's just not. The truth of the matter is, nature will lead to chaos, because people are imperfect and selfish. A rising tide will lift all boats, but if each square foot of that tide were a separate being, then the tide would have to work together in order to lift each boat... but I'd have to argue that each square foot of tide would only work hard enough to lift as many boats as it could carry for itself.

I want to spend my hard-earned money on things that I want, I want to use my money to help the people in need who I want to help. I don't want to lift all boats. I want to lift the boats I care about.

White Christmas

Looks like we'll be having a white Christmas this year. Yippee! If that could come without the sore throats, the chilling wind, the shoveling, and the treacherous driving conditions, then I'd really be excited about it. Yesterday the Breunig Family had its annual Christmas dinner at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury, MA. It was complete was a snowstorm, minute men, firetrucks, and firemen. That's right, that's right! Oops... I momentarily turned into George Bailey there for a second.

Every single Christmas Party I was supposed to go to this year so far has been canceled due to snow! Come on, people, where's the Christmas spirit? No, I actually wouldn't have wanted to drive in that snow anyway...

I can hear the wind blowing about a hundred miles an hour just outside my window... I'm not very much looking forward to going out and cleaning off my car to get to work, but it has to happen eventually. I'd so much rather stay in here and listen to Christmas music!

Cape Cod in August

This morning I woke with a start. I felt every muscle and joint in my body tense as I bent my elbows to lift myself into a near-sitting position. I looked out the window to see what I had expected. Daylight. It must have been near eleven o’clock. I had overslept, and would therefore be doomed to a day-long headache. I absently reached for my cell phone on the table beside my bed to check the exact time, and was surprised. Eight O’clock. Oh, right. I am reintroduced to the fact that if I go to bed any earlier than eleven o’clock at night, it is impossible for my body to sleep past eight AM. Although useful, at times it’s really just a dreadful thing to live with. On weekends, vacations, holidays, or after a long, busy, difficult day, I am incapable of sleeping late.
The air on Cape Cod is unlike any other air. It has a certain beachiness to it that cannot be matched anywhere away from the beach, but it’s different from the air at any other ocean location. It’s salty and sweet, and moist. Not moist like the air anywhere else on a humid day. The Cape’s air doesn’t even have to have any humidity in it, but it will still be damp and sticky. And so salty. Everything is gray; the houses, the sky, even the water from a distance. But it’s not a depressing kind of grayness, like it would be anywhere else. It’s beautiful.
Even on the most boring, miserable day on Cape Cod, there is no place in the world that I would rather be. Today will probably be a day like that. It’s cool outside, and the skies are gray like they’re preparing to drench me. My brothers bore me, my Daddy is out on an adventure, and my Momma is still getting over a thrown-out back. It might be hours before I get a turn to use the tiny shower in the tinier bathroom. What could be better than this? I can see the waves splashing on the shore, the white-caps crashing on each other. The water is pretty calm, for the ocean. The window is open and a cool, salty, sticky breeze is blowing gently across my body.

Even when I'm not a student, I procrastinate like it's my job

This afternoon I planned on wrapping Christmas presents, since I've done a pretty good job at getting them purchased in plenty of time. Instead, I created this blog! I've used livejournal for years, but that has always been more of a social networking site and less of an actual place to share my thoughts and bizarre (some may call creative) works of literature. We'll see how this goes.

Well, it's been fun so far, but now it's time to head out! Starbucks for a drink, church with Rob and Suzie, pit stop at another Starbucks to take advantage of this week's 44% discount, and then... Suzie promised salmon! yummy =P
